This summer, I came back home for the first time in 2 ½ years. It felt like a good opportunity to go photograph the island with fresh eyes.

The Houses

Houses on the island have a very specific appearance: red tiles, white walls, and blue / green window wood shutters. Although disputed, tradition has it that the shutters' color came from the fishermen painting them with leftover boat paint.

The Sea

Black - and - white experimentation in the harbor

I believe the impulse to do this came from being away for so long. I've always thought the harbor's colors were lovely, but there was something fun that day about playing with black - and - white.
